The DC2 has some brake trouble. I think either my discs have spots or the pads arent wearing off evenly.
The first 5 km’s of the track, I could keep up with an e36 m3 that had a full cage in it and was completely stripped. He was gunning it pretty hard, but we were blasting past some more powerful cars on track. After that, the car started vibrating under hard braking and I pretty much upshifted and babied it home. Didnt see the ST at all actually.
Next month, Im taking on the brakes and will tinker on some other things and go track at Zolder. Hopefully, everything will go a bit better. I’ll absolutely post a report on that. :)

I always liked the Puma, great little engine with plenty of room for mods, especially from dedicated places like PumaSpeed. Shame it’s gone.
![]() 04/26/2016 at 17:16 |

I parked it in the street one day and it was written off by some knobhead in an old 3 series. At least he was insured.
![]() 04/26/2016 at 17:20 |

Yeh, at least a slight bit of good news. What did you replace it with? There’s Pumas going for peanuts on Autotrader/Gumtree, I’ve considered a few of them but with what I was willing to spend they were all a bit rough.
![]() 04/26/2016 at 17:30 |
|
I didn’t replace it with anything. I went to look at one puma that looked really nice but the seller was very rude and patronising to me. I live very close to work and don’t actually need a car now even if i really want one. I think i’m ready to move on from pumas and get something else but i need some good ideas.
![]() 04/26/2016 at 17:33 |

Well Oppo is the right place to ask that question. When you’re ready just reply to this with where you are in the world, budget including running costs/ins. etc., body style (if it matters to you), and what you need to use it for, and I’ll share it to the main page.

Thank you for being so helpful :)
I’m not looking to buy now but ill gladly listen to any ideas you guys might have. :3
I’m in the south east of england and id like something thats fun cute and sporty. I dont need a commuter car because i walk to work but id like to have something to take on blasts down b roads. I’ve been really stressed out after i lost my puma because going on drives was my favourite way to blow off steam. I like small cars because at 4'11 im rather small myself. I need something i wont look stupid in. I dont care about practicality but fuel economy is a bit of a concern and id have a hard time living with something that gets under 25 mpg on motorways. I dont care about body styles as long as it looks cute and i dont care how many seats it has. 2 is fine but more is better. As for use id mostly be driving it aimlessly for fun but id also like to be able to take it on longer trips up north a few times a year. I really dislike cars that feel fat, bloated and are made for old people. Out of cars i drove in my life i hated an x300 xj6 the most. My budget would ideally be below 1700 quid but i could do anything up to 2500 if anything blew me away.
![]() 04/26/2016 at 18:24 |
|
Hahahaha yea I was just joking about that too... But he got a good deal and the car definitely needed better tires. I also blew a bit of money on the new bike, leathers, and tires, so I’m in no place to comment!

There’s not many UK Opponauts about, so it’ll be easier if I link this to the few I know of rather than posting to the main page.

How’s that canvas roof for all year usability?
![]() 04/26/2016 at 18:37 |
|
Fine, cold in winter until the blower kicks in, can have age-related leaking and rear plastic window damage, but it comes with a hardtop included in the sale.
![]() 04/26/2016 at 18:39 |
|
I dont have a garage at the moment so theres nowhere i could store that hardtop. I’d either have to keep it on or get rid of it. :(
![]() 04/26/2016 at 18:47 |
|
Since you have no need for practicality (it hasn’t got a boot), I say go for a MK3 MR2. They had a hardtop option (this being Britain, it was widely chosen) and you have the novelty of it being mid engined. Most importantly they are cheap, very cheap and will get 40 MPG.
![]() 04/26/2016 at 18:52 |
|
Not much you can do about that apart from find a friend or family member that has some free space. Self storage maybe?
It’d be easy to sell the hard top though, for sure. Then it’s up to you how often you drive it in the freezing temperatures, but if you’re on a journey longer than 10 minutes the heater will take care of the winter blues for you.
![]() 04/26/2016 at 18:53 |
|
I was looking at older mr2s before i bought my puma and quite liked them but my mum whos a driving instructor claimed the handling on them can be very dangerous. Is that true? I’ve never driven a mid engined car before.
![]() 04/26/2016 at 19:00 |
|
The Mk2 MR2 was a snap oversteering death trap that could be had with a Turbo if you wanted your death extra well done. The MK3 was toned down to the point that various MR2 fans claim it’s an imposter due to its chronic lack of randomly sending it’s drivers backwards into trees.
In all seriousness, safety is a mixed bag. There are no side air bags so getting T boned will be a problem but roll over protection is excellent for Roadster. The handling though is very neutral so you should be fine.

Hi there, I’m in the south East too :) not far from Tunbridge Wells.
Have you thought of an MG F? We’ve just picked one up and it’s been an absolute blast :) great fun on B-roads and definitely feels light on its toes.
£2000 should pick you up a really nice one. You’ll want one that’s had its head gasket replaced with an uprated one as that’s a failing point, but once that’s done they’re as trouble free as any other car. Definitely get a VVC one. They’re quick :)
Here’s a sample :)
Other options for light and fun would be an MX-5 as 4muddyfeet has suggested, or maybe a Toyota MR2 . There’s mainly 3rd gen ones for sale near here which are broadly similar to the MG F, but I’ve driven a 2nd gen at Brands Hatch a couple of times and they’re great too.
Other than that it’s probably another Puma as they are good, or maybe a Peugeot 106 GTi as they’re great too :)

Al I can think for that money is a Skoda Fabia Mk1 1.9D. They go like shit off a shovel, small a easily throwable around corners. A colleague just g rid of his but loved I while he had it.

MX-5 and MR2 mk3 are very good suggestions. How about a Ford SportKa as a small and fuel-efficient alternative?

Hey! :D
I’m not quite as south east as you as I’m in Chelmsford but it’s close enough ;)
I haven’t really thought about convertibles at all to tell you the truth. I was more or less focused on small hatches and coupes like my old Puma or maybe a C2 VTS.
With convertibles I’m worried about winter usability. While the climate is mild where I live I’d be taking the car to Scotland a few times a year since that’s where most of my family lives, and it can be a lot less mild there. :)
![]() 04/27/2016 at 08:46 |

Skodas aren’t my kind of thing at all. I don’t like how they look like or how generic they are.
![]() 04/27/2016 at 08:46 |
|
I like those! The question is wouldn’t they really by a downgrade after a Puma?
![]() 04/27/2016 at 08:55 |
|
Depends on whether you equate “fun” with “speed”. Try one, you might like it.
![]() 04/27/2016 at 08:55 |
|
Haha I’m always cold so a car that warms up well is important to me. I guess that’s why I was never really considering a convertible before.
![]() 04/27/2016 at 09:11 |
|
Hmm, I’m not sure about proper winters as we’ve only had ours for a couple of weeks. I can’t see it being overly cold compared to a tintop though.
A C2 would be good, although they're pretty much just heavier versions of the 106/Saxo. Depends how close to the 'tin box with a nutter engine' archetype you want to go :)
![]() 04/27/2016 at 09:35 |
|
I definitely want to get a proper car out of the deal, so no crazy Caterham-like stuff please. :3 Then again, aren’t those plastic? So not even a tin box. :P
The only piece of kit I really have to have on a car is power steering. I’m not the strongest person in the world as you can probably imagine so I don’t think unassisted steering is really a viable option for me. AC would be nice too I guess but isn’t strictly necessary. I’m usually too cold anyway :3

Covertabiles in winter are fine (ish). Had mine over this winter an used it cause its my only car. Svend recommended some stuff which keeps the rubber lubricated (oo-er) and stops it freezing up.
